Aki Sogabe was in middle school when she imitated a paper cutting illustration from a newspaper using origami paper. Since then, she has continued the practice of cutting paper to create art.
Aki Sogabe introduced kiri-e (paper cutting) to the Pacific Northwest in 1978 and now her works are included in the collections of many corporations, organizations and universities. Her works are displayed at many schools from elementary through college in Washington State.
Her public art is installed in the Pike Place Market and Uwajimaya Village in Seattle. She is also known as a children's book illustrator.
